A 33-year-old Cambridge man died when a coach hit him on the A14 eastbound between Histon and Milton on Saturday. Police want witnesses and dashcam footage.
A man from Cambridge has died after he was struck by a coach on the A14 north of the city. He was 33.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary said a white Yutong coach was travelling eastbound between Histon and Milton when it struck the pedestrian. It happened at about 1.35pm on Saturday 12 September.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The coach driver, a 39-year-old man from Peterborough, was uninjured.
The force has launched an investigation and is appealing for witnesses. It published the appeal on Monday 14 September. It has not named the man or said how he came to be on the carriageway, and we have not speculated.

Officers want to hear from anyone with information, including dashcam footage. The force’s statement asks people to:

Where it happened
The stretch between Histon and Milton is part of the A14’s Cambridge Northern Bypass. It runs for about a mile and a half between the Histon interchange at junction 32, where the B1049 crosses, and the Milton interchange at junction 33 with the A10. It sits just outside the city boundary, in South Cambridgeshire, with Orchard Park, King’s Hedges and Cambridge Science Park just to the south.
The police statement does not give a more precise location than that.
What the collision record shows for this stretch
We checked the Department for Transport’s road casualty statistics for the A14 from the Histon interchange to the Milton interchange, both junctions included. These are the injury collisions reported to police, recorded where the A14 is the main road involved.
From 2021 to 2025:
- 21 injury collisions were recorded on the stretch
- 28 people were hurt in them, 4 seriously
- none was fatal
- no pedestrian was among the casualties
Pedestrian deaths on the A14 are rare, but Saturday’s is not the first near Cambridge in recent years. Across the whole Cambridgeshire Constabulary area, the same figures record two pedestrians killed on the A14 between 2021 and 2025. Both were within about seven miles of Saturday’s collision:
- 13 May 2021, on the A14 near Horningsea, about a mile east of the Milton interchange
- 2 September 2024, on the A14 near Bottisham, in East Cambridgeshire
The force area recorded 273 injury collisions on the A14 over those five years, 10 of them fatal.
The statistics count only collisions reported to police in which someone was hurt. Damage-only crashes are not included, and the newest year can be revised.
What it means for you
- If you were on the A14 between Histon and Milton on Saturday afternoon, check any dashcam footage from around 1.35pm, especially on the eastbound side. Call 101 and quote incident 260 of 12 September, even if you are not sure it shows anything.
- If you saw something but did not stop, the force still wants to hear from you.
- Be careful what you share. The man has not been named by police, and his family may not want details circulated. Information is best given to the police directly rather than posted online.
