Is it suitable for children?

Read this before you book for young children. The theatre says: “This production will contain innuendo and political humour. While the content is suitable for all ages, it may not be appropriate for younger audiences. Parental discretion is strongly encouraged.” The listing also warns of flashing images.

If you want a daytime show, the four matinees are at 2.30pm on 28 November, 3 December and 5 December, and 1pm on Sunday 29 November.

What the show is

The CUADC/Footlights panto is written and performed by University of Cambridge students from the Amateur Dramatic Club and the Footlights. The ADC’s panto page says it has been a tradition since 1970, that it is the largest show in the theatre’s calendar, and that it plays to sold-out houses. The script and music are original each year. Last year’s was Jack and the Beanstalk and the year before Snow White. Cinderella was also the very first, in 1970.

This year’s plot, from the listing: Cinderella lives in the Kingdom of Newtopia, where no one but her friend Buttons has time for her, and meets the prince outside the palace gardens before the King’s ball for Newtopia’s richest.

Access and getting there

The ADC Theatre is at Park Street, Cambridge CB5 8AS. The box office has power-assisted doors and a lift runs from the foyer to the bar and auditorium. Wheelchair seats are booked by calling the box office on 01223 300085 or emailing access@adctheatre.com the first time. Full-time carers get a complimentary ticket, there is an infra-red hearing system, and assistance dogs are welcome.
